  Unity and Governance

Unity and Governance

It is exciting to see that the ICOC churches are getting back together to form some sort of Unity.  Some churches in our fellowship, due to their past negative experience under certain leadership, may be asking what this "Unity" is all about.  Well, if you want to know, you can find more information in this link, which has both the English and Chinese version:  http://www.hongkongcoc.org/menu.htm

I am a simple man with a tendency to be practical.  You know, let’s-solve-problems-so-life-could-go-on type of guys.  So, from my perspective, the ICOC really should form some sort of “umbrella” structure to bring people in, in order to provide the necessary identity and a cohesive vision.

One might ask, “What is the big deal about that?”  It’s true; no one has ever starved to death for lack of identity and vision.  Yet, in order to do great things, (and we all know that doing great things for the Lord is good), a group of people must have an identity and a cohesive vision.

As our group of Chinese churches got together to form the China Mission Society two months ago, all of us are excited about the possibilities of resource-sharing, event-coordination, and most of all, vision-inspiring.  It’s the concept of “a cord of three strands,” (Eccl. 4:12), that we value the most.  Therefore, we also look forward to, if it’s the Lord’s will, that there would be some sort of governance model that would provide efficient coordination amongst the entire sister churches in the “former” ICOC churches in the near future.  If nothing else, at least, we would be able to provide recommendations or contact information for our disciples who are traveling or studying abroad.  (Maybe it’s my practical side showing again…)
